Walker County is fortunate to have the Bankhead House & Heritage Center. When acquiring the home and stating its purpose, the late John T. Oliver, Jr., past President and founding Board Member of Walker Area Community Foundation said "It has long been our belief that our town needed a proper place to display and recognize our rich heritage, as well as a place to host cultural events. This colonial revival home - when restored to its original dignity will provide just such a venue. It will provide space for exhibits, art shows, book signings, storytelling and similar events."
We strive each day to showcase the past, present and future of Walker County and the surrounding area through a wide variety of exhibits that change every three to four months along with hosting events, such as Heritage Fun Day, concerts and movie nights.
